If you’ve ordered timber, fencing or a bag of coal from us over the years, you’ll know us as DIY Supplies North East. Well, its time we let you in on the big news. We’ve had a bit of a makeover, and we’re now trading as Greenwood Building Supplies.
Same yard just off the A19 in Seaham. Same friendly faces loading your van. Same next-day delivery you’ve come to rely on. Just a new name above the door and, if we’re honest, a lot of behind-the-scenes work to make ordering from us even easier.
Grab a brew and let us explain what’s changed (and, more importantly, what hasn’t).
Why Did DIY Supplies North East Become Greenwood Building Supplies?
Good question, and one a few of our regular trade customers have already asked us at the counter.
Truthfully, “DIY Supplies North East” never quite captured everything we do. We’re not just a DIY shop. We supply serious trade quantities of timber, fencing and decking to builders and contractors right across the North East, alongside helping homeowners with their weekend projects. Greenwood Building Supplies is a name that works for both, and it gives us room to grow without confusing anyone about what we actually offer.
We’re now officially trading as Greenwood Building Supplies Ltd, based at our usual spot on the Cold Hesledon Industrial Estate in Seaham. Nothing about our location, our stock or our team has moved an inch.
What’s Changed at Greenwood Building Supplies (and What Hasn’t)?
Fair enough, a new logo is one thing, but did anything real change? A little, yes, mostly for the better.
We’ve used the rebrand as an excuse to tidy up how we work, particularly around delivery. If you’re ordering fencing, decking, timber, panelling, mouldings, hardware, logs or coal, we now price delivery in clear mileage-based zones from our Seaham base, so their’s no guessing what you’ll pay before you check out. Roughly speaking:
| Zone | Distance from Seaham | Delivery | Example towns |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zone 1 | 0–5 miles | £10 | Seaham, Peterlee |
| Zone 2 | 5–10 miles | £15 | Sunderland, Durham |
| Zone 3 | 10–15 miles | £20 | Hartlepool, South Shields |
| Zone 4 | 15–20 miles | £25 | Newcastle, Middlesbrough |
| Zone 5 | 20–25 miles | £35 | Cramlington, Redcar |
| Zone 6 | 25–30 miles | £40 | Morpeth, Whitby |
We deliver using our own fleet (no third-party couriers chucking your fence panels over the wall) and if you order before 2pm, stock permitting, it can be with you the next day. Handy if you’ve got a job starting Monday and realise Sunday night you’re three fence posts short (we’ve all been there).
Fencing Calculator, Decking Calculator and Shed Builder Tools
One thing we’re genuinely proud of is the calculators on the new site. Measuring up for a fencing or decking job by hand is fiddly at the best of times, and it’s far too easy to under-order and end up making a second trip.
The Fencing Calculator lets you pop in your length, height, board size, post thickness and cross rail dimensions, and it works out exactly what you need, including a sensible waste allowance, because offcuts happen to the best of us.
The Decking Calculator does the same job for decking projects, taking the maths out of your hands so you can get on with the actual building.
And if a shed is more your thing, our Shed Builder tool walks you through colour, size, style, cladding, doors, windows and interior options step by step, with a live preview that updates as you go. You can see roughly what it’ll cost before you commit to anything, which we think beats guessing.
Trade Accounts and Local North East Trade Partners
If you run a business (landscaping, joinery, general building, whatever it might be) our trade accounts are still very much here, with exclusive discounts and priority delivery for approved accounts. We’re also proud to work alongside other local trades in the area, listed on our Local Trades page, including Drives R Us for driveways, patios and landscaping, and NE&C Windows & Doors for aluminium and PVC installations. Small local businesses backing each other up: that’s what the North East does best, isn’t it?
Do I Need to Do Anything After the Rebrand?
Not really, no. If you had an account or a favourites list with DIY Supplies North East (our old site now points straight over to us), get in touch and we’ll help sort you out on the new site. Otherwise, just head to greenwoodbuildingsupplies.com and everything’s there ready to go.
Frequently Asked Questions About the Greenwood Building Supplies Rebrand
Is Greenwood Building Supplies the same company as DIY Supplies North East? Yes. We’ve simply rebranded to better reflect the full range of building supplies we offer, from timber and fencing through to logs and coal. Same team, same Seaham base.
Do you still deliver across the North East? We do, using our own delivery fleet, priced in mileage zones from Seaham, covering everywhere from Peterlee and Sunderland right through to Newcastle, Middlesbrough and Whitby.
Can I still get a trade account? Absolutely. Trade accounts with discounts and priority delivery are still available, subject to approval.
What if I placed an order just before the rebrand? Nothing to worry about. Get in touch with the team and we’ll sort it, whichever name is on your paperwork.
Order Building Supplies From Greenwood Building Supplies in Seaham
A rebrand can feel like a big deal from the outside, but for us it’s mostly a fresh coat of paint on a business that’s still doing exactly what it always has: getting quality building supplies out to trade and DIY customers across the North East, quickly and without any fuss.
Have a browse of the new site, try the fencing or decking calculator on your next project, and if you’ve got any questions at all, give us a shout. We’re just at the end of the phone, same as always.
